Failure Tags
What Are Failure Tags?
When you miss a habit, you can optionally tag it with a reason. This helps you identify patterns in why you're missing habits.
Available Tags
EarnItGrid offers six failure tags:
- Forgot - Simply slipped your mind
- Too busy - Had other priorities or time constraints
- Not motivated - Didn't feel like doing it
- Sick - Health prevented completion
- Traveling - Away from your normal routine
- Other - None of the above fit
How to Use Failure Tags
On Desktop
- Click a past incomplete day
- Select a tag from the modal
- Optionally add a note
- Save
Or use Ctrl+Click to add a tag without marking complete.
On Mobile
Long-press a past incomplete day to open the failure tag modal.
Adding Notes
Each failure tag can include an optional note (up to 200 characters). This helps you remember specific circumstances.
For example:
- "Sick" + "Food poisoning from lunch"
- "Too busy" + "Project deadline"
- "Traveling" + "Camping trip, no phone"
Viewing Tagged Days
Days with failure tags show a small orange indicator on the grid. Hover (desktop) or long-press (mobile) to see the tag and note.
Why Tag Failures?
Understanding why you miss habits is powerful:
- Identify patterns: Do you always miss Mondays?
- Reduce guilt: "Sick" is valid - you're not failing
- Improve planning: If "busy" is common, maybe adjust your habit load
- Self-compassion: Acknowledging reasons helps you move forward
No Judgment
Failure tags aren't about judging yourself. They're data to help you succeed. Every successful person misses habits sometimes - what matters is understanding and adjusting.
